What’s it like living in one of the coldest places in Canada? What’s it like living in one of the hottest places in Canada? What’s it like living in Brandon Manitoba?

Truly, Brandon is a place of extremes. It’s quite normal for us to have -50 degree Celsius (with windchill) weather that doesn’t drop below -38 for a few weeks in the winter, usually in January or early February. It’s also not unusual to get high 30′s and up to the low 40′s for a week in July. Snow in May is not uncommon and in fact presented itself this year. The latest snow I remember was around 2004 or 2005 where we had snow fall on May the 14th, and a good amount to, over 10cm. The earliest snow presents itself usually in mid September, typically a few days after a very hot spell in the mid 20′s. This snow doesn’t stay and usually we get snow in October that stays, Halloween has been popular for this. However this last year the first snow that fell and didn’t freeze was on December the 1st.

As for precipitation we don’t usually receive a lot. This year is obviously an exception. We are blessed with many sunny days and a light westerly wind year round and little snow.

That’s a little summary of the typical weather in Brandon. All in all were some of the strongest Canadians to have survived here!
