Dating from 1907, the Art Gallery and it’s supporters have provided a venue to exhibit the art of the prairies. By 1959 a permanent place was established to exhibit the art and to provide art lessons. It was named the Brandon Allied Arts Council. In 1989 the gallery was moved again to the now Convergy’s building on Princess and was renamed to the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba. In the year 2000 the building was once more moved to it’s now current location.
The gallery has a 4300 sq. ft. main exhibition hall which is regularly filled with various exhibits. The gallery also provides various art classes in photography, digital media, ceramics, drawing and many others. Each year hundreds of people take these courses.
From April 29 to June 19, 2010 the main gallery is filled with an exhibition called Hockey Town.
